Pharell’s Perspective

May 28th, 2008

There is something eerily beautiful about the Perspective Chair. I love the relationship of the male to the female, somewhat sexual in nature, but so much more. Absolutely intelligent design. Pharell, (yes, the musician) is the artist behind this design. He collaborated with Domeau & Pérès to create this chair, another chair and table that will be part of a show in Paris.

New Shop: Urban Alchemist

May 27th, 2008

This past Thursday I had the chance to check out a new shop called Urban Alchemist located in Park Slope (343 5th Street (5th St & 5th Ave)). Urban Alchemist is a designer collective that features two jewelry designers, a lighting designer, crafted wooden products, and totes and tees. I was put on to the shop by my friend Donna, who creates some of the hottest lighting under her brand Re-surface. It is a cool little shop with some beautiful gift items. It is a must see. The ladies take turns operating the store on different days. Pictured above, my girl Donna and her lighting, Via Nativa’s beautifully crafted treasures, and a necklace that I fell in love with.

Stationary Show and ICFF

May 20th, 2008

Yesterday I spent the day walking the ICFF Show. It was pretty good. I saw a lot of my old favorites and was pleasantly surprised to make some new friends and favorites.
I did make a stop at the Stationary show to do a quick run through and check out fellow designer and blogger, Jennifer Ramos of Made by Girl She was crazy cool and her cards were amazing.

My favorite of the ICFF was Bottega Montana The amazing woodwork and craftmanship was out of this world. The moment I buy my house and have a lavish budget to redecorate I am copping one of his tables. It needs to tools to assemble, they are like puzzle pieces that fit securely into place. it is truly brilliant design. I loved the stools as well in the bright stained colors. However my all time favorite were the skateboards. This dude and his brother are so hot that Shephard Faiery of OBEY designed their logo and the decks look bananas with the graphic white logo playing against the wood. The work is truly amazing and the guys was cool as sh&^, we must of rapped for a good 20 minutes. (Which is an eternity at a show when you are not making a purchase, lol)

It was also cool to see Diane Ruengsom who I had met while speaking at her class at FIT. She had some beautiful organic woodworking. Her line is eco, most of it repurposed wood. However the beauty was in the shapes and the organic feel of her line. I especially like the tea light holder.

Laidback on Design*Sponge

May 17th, 2008

I was elated earlier today to see that Grace from Design*Sponge mentioned my pillows on her wrap up of Brooklyn Designs. I have been reading her blog for about 2 years and it is an honor to be on there. Thanks Grace!!
