THE AFFORDABLE ART SHOW

In line with our mission of making art more accessible to the
community at large, we came up with the concept of The Affordable Art Show as a way to encourage young people and new collectors to purchase art and support up & coming artists. All exhibited works will be priced under $200.

The Laidback chick had a fun filled week of festivities, that started with the MyITthings.com ITdesigner Contest and party on Wednesday, Project Enterprise award dinner where my friend Ngozi of Harriets Alter Ego was nominated for Entrepreneur of the year on Thursday to the finale BRAG Gala.

The laidbackchick donated pillows to the silent auction and made my first appearance at a BRAG gala. It was a marvelous night. It started with me not looking so laidback and putting on the full glam to party it up with colleagues, entertainers, fashionistas and friends. Alek Wek my new bff was charming, absolutely beautiful and extremely cool and down to earth, as was Malinda Williams who recently launched a lingerie collection. Patrick Cox, who is now the creative director of the Gap, was given an award, and was cool and extremely sociable as he rocked his black Obama tee with jacket. Constance White, the fashion director for ebay was was the mc, she was fun and a bit off the cuff at times but fashionable as hell, as was honoree and one of my mentors Harriet Cole, creative director for Ebony. A great time was had by all, everyone was fashionable and social while celebrating the retailers in training( graduating BRAG interns) and raising money and awareness for the future interns.

“Ol Play”

The weather was unexpectedly beautiful yesterday while the economy was growing increasingly glum, so I decided to take to the streets and see what people were doing in the midst of it all. The Laidback philosophy is built on the premise that you still have to find a way to chill and relax in the midst of all that life throws at you. For all intents and purposes many would think I should be a bit more stressed out as a freelancing single parent who is kinda BROKE, but hell I am designing shit that I love that’s putting a smile on peoples faces as they add some swagger to their homes. So I am living laidback and loving it. Yesterday made me smile because I was not alone, there were a ton of people out at Union Square simply living in the moment. They let the sun melt the pains, stresses, and worries away, if only for the moment and I hung out with a few making the moment a bit more comfy with a pillow. Live vicariously through them instead of pulling out hairs today, the webisode “How do you get Laidback Pt1″ will be up next week.

Last night the Laidback chick was at the relaunch of the Asics Sportsyle sneaker line providing pillows for the VIP lounge. They rocked the Ol Play style on the sofas as Kid Sister and several other groups provided the entertainment. To try and make the Asic pop they created the largest Lite Brite, (a throw back to playtime as a child) built in the shape of the sneaker. The Guinness Book of World Records were there to record the art into the record Books. Fun group of folks out drinking and dancing and of course those Retro Kids hit the dance floor trying to bring back that 80’s vibe.
