Sorry I have been MIA all week, we were in the throes of Market Week. Well as economic times predicted, this years international Gift Fair was a bit less crowded than past years. Laidback represented none the less forging through creating new relationships and possible new vendors. Look out 09′! We are happy to announce that we are going International with an order preparing to be shipped to Japan. We are maintaining showroom space also at the Gift Building in 7W for anyone interested in checking out and buying the line for their stores. We are on the road to 100 doors. To check out the line email orders@laidbackhome.com
I love great collaborations between brands, and one that I will be checking out today is the Big Window Challenge, a collaboration between Apartment Therapy and Bloomingdales. Bloomingdales is relaunching it’s furniture floor with new high end designs and has three Apartment Therapy readers decorating the windows with the furniture from the floor and we the people get to vote for our favorite. The winner gets a Bloomies gift card and mad props. Maxwell, Apartment Therapy founder and blogger also designed a blogger suite for the windows. It’s a must see at the 59th street Bloomingdales. If you check it out today and stay for the party you will see the laidback chick there as well.
While everyone, myself included were patiently awaiting to see what Michelle was wearing to the Inaugural Ball, I am also waiting for the first peek at the White House interiors. Michelle Obama has chosen Michael Smith a young award winning designer known for creating classic, laidback comfort in even the grandest of estates. Keeping the Obama’s plight to keep things as grounded as possible for the girls, I’d imaging they would want a homey feel, yet elegant enough to reflect their personal tastes. Above are a few picts of homes that Mr. Smith has worked on, he just might be the man for the job. He has an impressive celebrity roster, has written two books, and also has a furniture and fabric collection. I still have my own picts for the girls room accessories, She Fly for Sasha and She Rocks for Malia. Can you see them getting laidback? lol
This is just a 12 min expression of how I feel today, but what more can I say other than I am proud to be American today. I am a business owner and sometimes my personal accomplishments surprise me, almost to the point of saying you like me?, but today I feel like why not. I am going to be bigger and better than anything before. Laidback is growing and I will also continue to serve my community and find other ways to give back. Now it’s time to get to work, Mr. President you make me want to be more. Thank you. Happy Birthday America, thank you God for today.
Today is the day that we celebrate Dr. Kings birth, life and legacy. Dr King sacrificed many things to fight for equality, with the ultimate sacrifice being his life so that I have the opportunity to start, build, and create a business, sell to buyers with skin color different than mine as well as join organizations where I may be the minority but I am able to walk through the front door and access the same information. Now we are a far cry away from totally equality and an end to racism, but Dr. King and people from his movement stood up so that I have opportunities and so that my big brother Barack will be sworn into office tomorrow. Oh how Dr. King would of been proud, while I imagine his sadness at not being able to see his children grow up, nor comfort and love his wife until they were both fully gray, I love to think that he gave that all up so that his children cold live to see tomorrow. Thank you Dr. King for it all! Today I pledge to work harder, love harder, and create opportunities for others, so that your death is not in vain.
I was checking out the MTV’s Real World Bk Site and stumbled on a house tour that showed Laidback pillows and the featured artist from yesterday Craig Anthony Miller’s work rather nicely. I’ll be watching tonight to see if any pillow fights jump off or if the cast behaves and kicks it laidback.
